TopGame playHow do games update? All games update automatically at the end of a turn. There are two ways a game can update, depending on its settings: (i) after all players have entered and locked their orders, or (ii) after a certain period of time.
TopHow long does a normal game last?It can differ greatly. Fast games are typically played in a few hours. Normal games with default settings may last a couple weeks. Custom games with longer settings could take up to several months.
TopWhat are the default settings for a game?A default game will update one every day. Players may communicate from one another but their identities are hidden. players are randomly assigned a country at the beginning of a game.
TopWhat custom game options are available?No-press - players cannot communicate during the game.
Anonymous - players cannot view the user name of their opponents until after the game is over.
No weekend updates - a game will not update on the weekends.
TopWhat is support?Anonymous - players cannot view the user name of their opponents until after the game is over.
No weekend updates - a game will not update on the weekends.
Support is an order by which a unit helps another attacking unit. A unit's support may be 'cut' if it is attacked by another unit (other than the one which the unit is supporting against).
TopCan orders be changed once I lock them?Yes. Simply click 'unlock' to enter new orders.
TopHow many games can I create? You may create up to 2 games that have not started at a time.
TopWhat are fast games?Fast games have 10 minute diplomatic phases with 5 minute reinforcement and retreat phases. These games can typically be finished in several hours.
TopWhen can I build units?Reinforcement phases occur on even-numbered turns, during which players who have open build centers and control more colonies than they have units will be allowed to build new armies or fleets.
TopWhat are the different phases in the game? Each turn of the game will have a Diplomatic phase. If any units are forced to retreat, that turn will then have a Retreat phase. On even-numbered turns, if any country can place new reinforcements, then there will be a Reinforcement phase. See the full rules for more details.
TopHow do railways work? Some maps have a railway which allows an army that starts a turn on the railroad to move more than territory space along the rail. If any foreign power attacks onto the railway during that turn, the army will be stopped in the last railroad territory before his movement was blocked. Friendly armies do NOT block railway movement.
TopHow do the boxes on the edge of some maps work? Some maps allow a player to move between locations off the map by using the boxes on the edge of the map. It takes one turn to move into the box and an additional turn to then move to any territory considered adjacent to the box.
TopCan a foreign fleet convoy my army? Can I convoy in chains?Yes. A foreign fleet can convoy another country's armies; however, that power must separately create a convoy order for his fleets that matches the army's convoy orders. An army may be convoyed over any distance so long as there are adjacent fleets that are ordered to convoy it.
TopWhat happens if I miss a turn or enter no orders? In most games, if a player fails to enter orders for two straight turns, he will be removed from the game and suffer a loss of 5 points. If a player does not wish to enter orders, he should either click 'lock orders' or 'enter no orders' to indicate that he has not simply neglected to enter orders.
TopWhat happens if I go on vacation and will miss a few turns? In your account settings, you can set your status to 'vacation mode'. There, you will set your leave and return dates for your vacation - a vacation must be at least 2 days. If any of your games updates during that time, you will automatically be removed from those games without any points penalty.
To prevent any player from abusing this feature, CoN makes it impossible to play any games during the vacation period.
TopCheatingWhat is considered cheating? To prevent any player from abusing this feature, CoN makes it impossible to play any games during the vacation period.
No player is permitted to have more than one account on CoN. If a player creates more than one account, we will remove the offending account(s). Players impermissibly playing more than one account in the same game face a permanent ban from the site.
In addition, attempting to communicate with other players in a no-press game is considered cheating.
TopHow do you prevent cheating? How do you know if cheating is happening? In addition, attempting to communicate with other players in a no-press game is considered cheating.
We have spent a great deal of time and energy creating safeguards to identify and prevent cheating. Whenever a player tries to join a new game, our scripts will bar any player if it appears he has multiple accounts in that game. In addition, we respond quickly to any reports of suspected cheating and will immediately remove any players who are confirmed to be cheating.
TopWhat happens if a player is caught cheating? The penalty for cheating may differ depending on how egregious the cheating was. A player with multiple accounts will have his extra accounts permanently blocked. Players operating more than one account in the same game will be removed immediately from the offending games and may be permanently banned from the site.
TopAdjudicationArmy A attacks somewhere, but fails and stays where it is. Army B supports army A holding. Opponent's armies: Army C attacks into A, supported by D. Will support from B be active? Or will C dislodge A?Army C will dislodge A, who will have to retreat. Even though Army B was supporting Army A holding, that support was broken because army A attempted to attack elsewhere. Consequently, army C's attack is 2 versus 1 and beats A.
TopArmy A was supporting another unit. Armies B and C were supporting A. Army D attacks army A. Is A's support cut?Yes. Even if a supporting unit has support himself, that additional support can only help prevent the army from being dislodged, it does prevent the support from being cut. Thus, army A's support is cut but he defeats the attack.
TopArmy A attacks into territory 1, which is empty. Army B also attacks into territory 1. Army C attacks into A's territory. Army B bounces, remaining in place. What happens to the other two?Armies A and C also remain in place. Because A bounces, it remains in its territory. Army C's attack is thus 1 versus 1 and bounces as well. All armies stay where they began.
